Lunes 13 de marzo de 2013. 7.30pm. Había estado entrenando mis abdominales por media hora en el gimnasio cuando recibí esta imagen en mi Whatsapp.

Es muy argentino atribuir una naturaleza divina a un jugador argentino, como lo hicieron una vez con Diego Maradona, y como hacen hoy con Lionel Messi. Los fanáticos del fútbol tendrán sus razones. Dentro de mi ignorancia, podría opinar, a simple vista, que Messi es una estrella mundial, un grande que empezó de muy abajo para llegar muy alto, pero sobre todo es un ejemplo de humildad, respeto y pasión. Conclusión: no me molestaría ver su nombre en uno de los sobres en las elecciones en el conclave de La Capilla Sixtina [jajaja]
En fin, interpreté la imagen, me reí muchísimo, la pasé a mis amigos y me dije a mi misma “Lo único que falta es que sea un papa Argentino”. Y pronto se hizo las 8.15pm entre estiramiento y estiramiento.

Sinceramente no estaba motivada para escribir sobre lo que estaba ocurriendo en Roma y no lo iba a hacer, pero como buena argentina que soy, me brotó la necesidad de dejar grabado por mis palabras este hecho histórico en mi blog. La Iglesia, como toda gran empresa internacional, otorga un prestigio especial a sus trabajadores y pienso que este acontecimiento tan universal, hará subir un escalón más a mi país en la escalera de los privilegios a nivel internacional, al menos en este contexto.
I was honestly not motivated to write about what was happening in Rome and I was not going to do it, but since I'm Argentinian I suddenly got the need to record with my words this historical fact on my blog. The Church, like any other big international company, provides a special prestige to their workers and I think that such an universal event will rise my country one step up in the staircase of privilege in the international stage, at least in this context.

Como cardenal, Bergoglio fue conocido por su humildad y su compromiso con la justicia social. Vive en un apartamento pequeño en vez de la residencia palaciega episcopal. Renunció a su limusina y a su chofer en favor del transporte público, y cocina su propia comida. Por fin la imagen y la riqueza de la iglesia es dejada de lado por un momento (No me digan que no fue sorprenderte ver llegar a los cardenales, que luchan por la igualdad, en coches de lujo mientras miles de personas mueren de hambre en el mundo).
FOR ME, IT’S A PLUS
As cardinal, Bergoglio was known for his humility and commitment to social justice. He lives in a small apartment instead of the Episcopal palace home. He resigned his limo and his driver in favor of public transport, and he cooks your own food. Finally the image and the wealth of the church is left aside for a moment (Do not tell me it was not surprising to see the cardinals, who fight for equality, arriving in luxury cars while thousands of people die of hunger in the world).

Su conservadurismo doctrinal. En julio de 2010, Jorge Bergoglio, en ese entonces arzobispo de Buenos Aires, se opuso al proyecto de ley para permitir el matrimonio de personas del mismo sexo, luego de que se difundiera una nota donde aseguró que la iniciativa es “una movida del Diablo” y que de sancionarse “puede herir gravemente a la familia”. En un acto frente al congreso también expresó: “No seamos ingenuos, no se trata de una simple lucha política, es la pretensión destructiva del plan de Dios” y solicitó “a San José, a María y al Niño” que “defiendan a la familia argentina” y “acompañen en esta guerra de Dios”. Yo pregunto ¿Qué pasa con el amor que se ha predicado desde siempre?

In July 2010, Jorge Bergoglio, then Archbishop of Buenos Aires, opposed the bill to allow the marriage of persons of the same sex, then he would spread a note saying the initiative is "a move of the Devil " and if it is approved "it can seriously injure the family." In a public event at the Congress he also expressed: "Let's not be naive, it is not a simple political struggle, the claim is destructive to God's plan" and asked "St. Joseph, Mary and the Child" to "defend the Argentina family" and ask to "join God in this war.” I wonder what about the love that has been always preached?

La presidenta argentina dejó de lado las diferencias que tuvo con el Cardenal Bergoglio años atrás y saludó al nuevo Pontífice en su cuenta de Twitter:

En mi nombre, en el del Gobierno argentino y representación del pueblo de mi país, quiero saludarlo y expresarle mis felicitaciones con ocasión de haber resultado elegido como nuevo Romano Pontífice de la Iglesia Universal.
Es nuestro deseo que tenga, al asumir la conducción y guía de la Iglesia, una fructífera tarea pastoral, desempeñando tan grandes responsabilidades en pos de la justicia, la igualdad, la fraternidad y de la paz de la humanidad.

The argentinian president put aside the differences she had with Cardinal Bergoglio years ago and greeted the new Pontiff in her Twitter account:

I extend to Your Holiness my consideration and respect. "
