¿Qué haré en semana santa?... Me preguntaba yo misma hace unos días y terminé por visitar el Museo de la Reina Sofía aquí en Madrid el domingo pasado y viajar a Toledo hoy, de hecho, acabo de llegar a casa desde allí y me senté a escribir. Lo primero que me viene a la mente es lo afortunada que soy por haber visto en vivo el famoso cuadro de Piccaso, el Guernica, entre otros y también por pasear por la ruta de Don Quijote de la Mancha, fotografiando aquellos molinos que el inmortal personaje de Cervantes confundió con gigantes. Es una sensación muy gratificante vivir de esta forma lo que aprendí de niña.
What will I do for Easter?... I asked myself a few days ago and I finished visiting the Reina Sofia Museum last Sunday and traveling to Toledo today, in fact, I've just got home from there and I sat down to write. The first thing that comes to mind is how lucky I am to have seen, face to face, Piccaso's famous painting, Guernica, among others, and also, to have walked the routes of Don Quixote de la Mancha, photographing the windmills that the immortal character of Cervantes thought were giants. It feels very rewarding to live this way what I learned when I was a child.

El museo de La Reina Sofía es una colección dedicada al arte contemporaneo que reúne a artistas como Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso y Joán Miró, entre otros. Como sea, su fama mundial se debe probablemente a que el Guernica, la obra número uno de Picasso, se expone allí.

El Guernica fue pintado por Picasso en los meses de mayo y junio de 1937, cuyo título alude al bombardeo de Guernica, ocurrido el 26 de abril de dicho año, durante la Guerra Civil Española. Fue realizado por encargo del Director General de Bellas Artes, Josep Renau a petición del Gobierno de la República Española para ser expuesto en el pabellón español durante la Exposición Internacional de 1937 en País, con el fin de atraer la atención del público hacia la causa republicana en plena Guerra Civil Española. No dejaban tomar fotos en esa sala - la cual, por cierto, me pareció muy simple para semejante obra - así que no esperen una buena toma.
Guernica was painted by Picasso in the months of May and June of 1937, which title refers to the bombing of Guernica, which occurred on April 26 of that year, during the Spanish Civil War. It was commissioned by the Main Director of Fine Arts, Josep Renau on behalf of the Government of the Spanish Republic to be exhibited in the Spanish pavilion at the International Exhibition of 1937 in Paris, in order to call the attention of the public to the Republican cause in middle of the Spanish Civil War. It is not allowed to take pictures in that room - which, by the way, up too me, was too simple for such a masterpiece - so do not expect a good shot.

Pasando a la literatura, todos conocemos la historia de don Quijote de la Mancha, de su escudero Sancho Panza y de su amada Dulcinea, una de las obras más destacadas de la literatura española y universal escrita en 1605 y 1615 (primera y segunda parte) por Miguel de Cervantes. En mi visita a la provincia de Toledo, en la comunidad autónoma de Castilla-La Mancha, a pesar de la lluvia y los vientos que dificultaron el viaje, no pude evitar pasar y subir a la sierra del pueblo de Consuegra para poder transitar las rutas de don Quijote y enfrentarme a los malvados gigantes, los molinos de viento, que aún irguen en la cima. Sinceramente me sentí parte de una novela. Fue una linda tarde lluviosa.
Changing to literature, we all know the story of Don Quixote, his squire, Sancho Panza and his beloved Dulcinea, one of the most outstanding works of Spanish and universal literature, written in 1605 and 1615 (first and second part) by Miguel de Cervantes. On my visit to the province of Toledo, in the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha, despite the rain and winds that hindered the trip, I could not avoid going up to the mountains close to the town of Consuegra to walk the routes that Don Quixote walked and to face the evil giants, the windmills, which are still standing up on top. Honestly, I felt part of a novel. It was a nice raining afternoon.
